Dear Puerto Rican community and allies:

This past October, the Board of Directors of the Puerto Rican Professionals Association of RI (PRPARI) celebrated one year since the transition to our new administration. I must say—it’s incredible how time flies.

I still remember my first interaction with the association with great fondness. Over three years ago, our former president, Antonia Ivette Solivan, who was the first person I contacted at PRPARI. Ivette, who dedicated her best years to our cause with so much love and sacrifice, gave me the warmest welcome to Rhode Island and to our Puerto Rican community in this state. During that very call, Ivette (whom we lovingly call “Ive”) recommended several places to enjoy Puerto Rican food. With open arms, Ivette welcomed me into this organization that I now hold dear as both a Puerto Rican and as president.

When I began volunteering with the organization, I met many people on the Board of Directors and other volunteers who inspired me deeply. To this day, I never forget those who came before me, and with great honor, I carry with pride the legacy of those who gave their best for our community before my arrival and that of our current team.

In that spirit, I am pleased to announce that, thanks to the hard work of our volunteers and the Board, the Puerto Rican Professionals Association of RI (PRPARI) has increased its impact in the Rhode Island community. In 2024, the number of volunteers increased by 33%, significantly boosting our association’s capacity to make a difference. The key to this achievement has been our digital marketing efforts, in-person social events, and volunteer recommendations that encourage friends and family to join our cause.

In terms of finances, in 2024, the Puerto Rican Professionals Association of RI (PRPARI) has increased its fundraising capacity by 18%, not including our iconic event, the “Parrandón.” This accomplishment has been made possible by the constant search for financial support, the network of connections we’ve built within the community, the ongoing help of leaders who believe in our mission, and the tireless efforts of our volunteers, who reflect our strong commitment to Puerto Rican excellence and the impact we aim to make in the community.

Structurally, PRPARI will now have five new committees: Public Relations, Professional and Economic Development, Membership and Retention, Social Welfare, and Cultural Management. Each committee will create initiatives that align with our mission to be the executive platform for the socioeconomic and cultural development of Puerto Ricans and their communities. These committees have attracted a growing number of professionals and university students who identify with and are committed to driving change.

In the area of events and civic engagement, we are in the process of organizing a financial literacy event for the Latino community, where we can teach and promote skills and knowledge for building intergenerational wealth. Additionally, we are planning initiatives to raise health awareness in our community.

These achievements and goals are not coincidences; they are the result of the dedicated efforts of our allies, sponsors, and volunteers. The future that awaits us as a Puerto Rican and Latino community excites and inspires me.

Thank you for placing your trust in our vision and mission. There is still much road ahead, but I am confident that, no matter the challenges we face, as Raúl Juliá said, “The impossible is not boricua.”
